Hey Dolls!
So to further expand on the home page blurb, I'm doing something a little different this Friday. I get super into tons of things and sometimes the favorites doesn't reflect it very well. I try to condense and pick and choose but today I don't want to. I want to give you the months worth of things I've been loving in the hopes that is a little something for everyone. It'll be like a glimpse into my brain, because it's a rarity that I meet someone that I have absolutely nothing to talk about with and, today, you guys get to see why.
Enjoy!

TV/Film:
Okay so it's summer and of course there are plenty of thing to do outside, but after several days of activity we all need a recovery day. What's better than completely vegging out having a Netflix marathon, or catching up on new episodes through on demand or Hulu. Summer seasons have started and I'm definitely here for it.

Orange is the New Black: Netflix Original
Okay so everyone and their great grand-mama has been talking about this show. During a down weekend I decided to give it a shot. Guys!! It's so good. I fully expected it be because the executive producer is the same person that created and executive produced Weeds, the 8 season phenomenon about a widow who breaks into the drug game to take care of her and her family due to her lack of employable skills. The show went there and back over it's run and I loved the creator, Jenji Kohan. I knew that if she had anything to do with Orange is the New Black it would be awesome. Then I did a little background research. The show is based off of a book by Piper Kerman, Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison. Yeah, she was in prison. Y'all her Wikipedia bio describes her as an American felon...it makes me happier than it should. Anyways, Kerman, who is married to Larry Smith - the guy who invented the 6 word memoir, lent her story to this project and I love it. Not only do all the characters have interesting back stories, but the actors do so much to develop them as people. One episode and you'll definitely understand why it got renewed for a second season before the first one even premiered.

Teen Wolf
I have a love hate relationship with this show...I love it so much and I hate when it goes on hiatus. Teen wolf is one of those shows that it's so good, it's hard to watch. At least season 3 was, so when season 4 premiered this past Monday on MTV, I was a unique balance of nervous and excited. This premiere was everything I needed from them. It had a plot and was thrilling but it was very much a throwback to season 1, funny and sarcastic (typical teen languages) all with the drama and suspense and god supernatural show needs. It reminded me of what set Teen Wolf apart from The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural and things of that nature, the teen part. It balances teen angst, spirit, and drama all while giving you that supernatural flavor.

Big Brother 16 The 16th season of one of the greatest social experiments ever returned Wednesday night on CBS for it's two night season premiere. The cast of characters seem to be a doosy. I'm partial to Wednesday nights intros because they all seem nice and on the up and up but the shade comes in with Thursday's batch. They're a little shifty but they're needed for the inevitable BB drama. | Naked and Afraid Recently I came across this show and it totally changed my life. The premise is that two people, a man and a woman, are sent to survive for 21 days in a location with 1 tool each. Oh yeah, and they're naked. Like naked as the day they were born, butt cheeks all out in the elements, nekid! They're in crazy places like the Louisiana swamp, the Amazon, Malaysia, etc. You name it, they're there, naked and afraid. It premieres this Sunday on the Discovery Channel and I'm most definitely ready. |
Health and Beauty:
I'm a girly girl at heart so of course I have some beauty faves.

So I recently got contacts so I've been experimenting with all things eyes lately. I've been hunting for a few great pairs of sunglasses, but I seem to just love them all. With this being the first time since I was 10 that I can wear them, it's been pretty fun to just try them all. Most definitely a fave.
Along with my sunglasses obsession, I have acquired a strong affinity to winged eyeliner. I've spent many an hour perfecting my winged eye because now everyone can really see it. It's been so fun getting it just right. Now to upgrade to eye shadow looks. Also I love my eyebrows, they're my favorite too. I don't have to pluck them since they don't grow very thick or fast and I have a natural arch that fits my face perfectly so no shaping or threading. At most I brush them and apply a little eyebrow gel to if I want a sleek look. It's awesome to find a feature about yourself that needs such little maintenance. | My nails have suddenly decided they want to grow and not chip whenever I turn a page in a book so now I've been able to do some serious experimenting with my nails. I've always loved having them painted but I never went for designs and stuff like that. I'd gotten into the habit earlier this summer of keeping a nude polish on my nails but it restricted me from all the fun of spring and summer colors. I've opted for doing a twist on french tips, nude base and colored tips. I love it, although I stick to one color at a time. I'm partial to teal. :D |
Music:
Now on to something you guys all know I love. What you might not know is how much I enjoy all genres...even country as of late. The only music I just can't seem to vibe with is Screamo or Death Metal, but maybe I just haven't heard the right song. That's usually all it takes, the right song on the right day and I'm hooked.
This Friday I'm feeling hip-hop and R&B. It's the perfect backdrop to and summer kickback, set, or house party.

Believe Me - Lil Wayne ft Drake
This collaboration between two of hip hop's brightest stars has me jumping for joy and putting up the praise hands. It's everything. From the laid back but still hard beat to the clever and, at times, hilarious lyrics, this song belongs on every "Get Hype" playlist (early in the mix after a couple of Kendrick Lamar songs)

Fight Night - Migos
Next up is Fight Night by Migos. Migos is a rap trio from Atlanta, Georgia. Now I'm gonna be 100% with you guys, I'm a huge fan of lyricists when it comes to any genre of music but especially with rap. I like hearing rap that is talking about more than big booty hoes and money (a few of my favorites are Kendrick Lamar, Tupac, J. Cole, Kanye West, Ludacris, and Biggie), but I cannot deny I love some good ratchet, hood, trap music on occasion. Lyrically, Migos is not the business for me, but the beats are always insane and perfect for a house party. I mean these are the guys that brought you Versace and Hannah Montana, you gotta love it. Fight Night is another shining example of what good party music is.

B****es Be Like - Rico Love
This next song makes me laugh every time I hear it. We've all seen the Twitter and Instagram posts with cliched things that females say, do, or think and I'm definitely not ashamed to say that I've busted many a gut reading them. Well Mr. Rico Love has made a song about it. He also has a song about side chicks you should listen to, They Don't Know. But you wanna know the best part about this song, he has a line where he mentions Jimmy Fallon. Well Jimmy, you made it!

Book/Magazine:
I've been waiting to read this book for the longest. I could make excuses all day but to be honest it came to a lack of me carving out time to buy it and read it. I've never been happier to have picked up a book in my entire life. I don't many haven't read it or seen the movie (confession time: I haven't yet. I'm a total a loser, I know) so I won't give spoilers. Just know that it is a must read. Probably the greatest thing I gained from this is a new favorite writer in John Green. In this one work he has restored my faith in people and modern day writers alike. John Green writes things that need to be read in order to have an understanding of humanity, and I am honored to live in a time where new works of this caliber and significance are still being created and celebrated. |
